On Thursday, CVM employees participated in our annual Volunteer Day at a Chicagoland non-profit organization called Poised for Success.
Poised for Success’ mission is to give their clients the self-confidence necessary to secure a job and become financially independent. This is done through providing, at no charge, interview and business professional clothing to women in the market for a job. Additionally, volunteers assist their clients in building self-confidence and interview skills as well as providing referrals to other local service organizations that provide job-skills training and job placement. Through these services the goal of Poised for Success (PFS) is to ensure that every woman has the opportunity to become self-sufficient and financially independent.
These services have been provided to nearly 1,000 women over the last four years alone. As a result, 88% of the women served believe they have received a monetary gain, and an incredible 76% believe the job they were afforded provided them with more financial freedom.
Asked why CVM chose to volunteer with PFS, Jeff Barg, Client Software Project Manager and Volunteer Team Manager at CVM responded, “just as CVM Solutions enhances opportunities for minority and women-owed businesses, Poised for Success is enhancing opportunities for women in the workforce. It’s a good fit.”
As a non-for-profit, volunteers are vital to their existence and sustainability. The importance of volunteers such as CVM Solutions cannot be understated. “If I could bottle up all [CVM’s] energy and enthusiasm and sell it, we would never have to worry about funding ever again,” mentioned Gail Foster, Executive Director at Poised for Success. Among volunteering, CVM held a donation drive to gather much needed winter attire as well as contributed a new PC to PFS.
